Syria: Curfew imposed after ISIS members escape

The Syrian army imposed a full curfew in the city of Sadadi in the Hasaka province, following the escape of ISIS fighters from the local prison. Government forces will “comb” the city searching for the escapees, while Kurdish forces and the Syrian army are mutually accusing each other of the incident. A ceasefire agreement has been reached, under which the army will deploy to areas controlled by the Kurds, who will withdraw. The government will take responsibility for the ISIS fighters held in Kurdish prisons, on the condition that the Kurdish administration “integrates into state structures.” The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), whose main component was the Kurds, led the battle against ISIS until the defeat of the jihadists in 2019. Today, thousands of former jihadists and family members are held in prisons and camps in northern Syria. There are conflicting reports about the incident, with the army accusing Kurdish forces of releasing the prisoners. The situation remains unclear and the information has not been confirmed by independent sources. The government accuses the Kurdish administration of seeking to politically exploit the issue of terrorism.
