Indonesian authorities have announced the discovery of the wreckage of the fisheries surveillance aircraft that was lost yesterday, in the province of South Sulawesi. The aircraft, an ATR 42-500 type, belonged to the Indonesia Air Transport group and carried eight crew members and three passengers, employees of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Contact with the aircraft was lost yesterday afternoon while it was carrying out a fisheries surveillance mission. The area where the wreckage was found is mountainous and covered in dense fog, making the search difficult. 1,200 members of the rescue service have been mobilized to recover the missing persons. The priority is to locate the victims, but there is hope for survivors. Adverse weather conditions and the terrain are hindering rescue efforts. The aircraft was heading to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, when it disappeared.
