Coordinated Operation in Larnaca: Liquid E-Cigarettes and Cannabis Products with Dangerous Synthetic Substances Seized

The Customs Department, in coordination with the Police, Pharmaceutical and Health Services, conducted an inspection of a premises in Larnaca selling cannabinoids and other products. The search resulted in the seizure of 145 e-cigarettes, refill liquids, drops, and liquids containing cannabinoids for pets. Analysis by the State General Chemistry Laboratory revealed the presence of cannabinoids and other psychoactive substances in some of these products, including the dangerous MDMB-en-PINACA. Additionally, 193 packages containing cannabis or THC and 38 packages containing cannabinoid substances (CBD) without a license were seized. The investigation highlighted the risks associated with the circulation and consumption of such products without medical supervision, particularly due to the presence of MDMB-en-PINACA, which has been linked to poisonings and deaths worldwide, as well as permanent damage to memory and learning. The substance is illegally used as an adulterant in products marketed as natural cannabis or e-cigarette liquids. The Customs Department emphasizes that the use of such products poses serious health risks as they are uncontrolled and may contain dangerous substances. The presence of MDMB-en-PINACA makes accidental use particularly dangerous, given the reported cases of poisoning and deaths associated with it. The operation is part of a broader effort by authorities to combat the illegal trafficking and sale of products that endanger public health. Checks and analyses will continue to protect citizens.
