Police Union Meetings with Parties over Shift Change

The President of the Cyprus Police Association (SPA), Angelos Nikolaou, and members of the Central Committee held meetings with the President and Deputy President of DIKO, Nikola Papadopoulos and Christiana Erotokritou, as well as MP Charalambos Theopemptou, regarding the unilateral decision by the Police leadership to change working hours. The SPA protests the reduction in rest days resulting from the shift change. The meetings expressed clear support for the union's request to restore the previous schedule, as well as the need to respect workers' rights and social dialogue. The SPA emphasizes that the uninterrupted continuation of the Police's work is of utmost importance and that unilateral decisions can harm its operational capacity. It calls for the lifting of unilateral decisions and the substantial conduct of social dialogue within the established bodies. The Association will continue its contacts with all parliamentary parties, with the aim of fully informing them about the decision it believes negatively affects the collective functioning of the force and undermines the labor rights of police officers.
