Averof-Annitas Meeting and Postponement of DISY Session Amidst Syka Case

Averof Neofytou met with DISY President Annita Dimitriou at Pindarus, discussing current affairs, including the case of MP Nikos Syka. The meeting coincided with a scheduled session of the party leadership, which was ultimately postponed. Mr. Neofytou expressed his views on the Syka case, while Ms. Dimitriou requested that he convey his concerns to the leadership. The postponement of the DISY leadership session was partly due to the pending decision of the Supreme Court regarding the lifting of Nikos Syka's immunity. The party leadership wants to avoid potential complications if the MP's immunity is lifted. At the same time, there were concerns that a Political Bureau meeting could rekindle internal party tensions. In the DISY parliamentary group, the majority of MPs favored the immediate resolution of the Syka issue, supporting the Executive Bureau's proposal to remove the MP from the party's ballot in Limassol. However, the final decision is expected to be made after the Supreme Court's ruling. Yesterday's leadership meeting was characterized by strong disagreements and clashes regarding the strategy to be followed. The Syka case has caused a serious crisis within DISY, against the backdrop of internal disputes and different approaches to dealing with the issue. The postponement of the session indicates the difficulty of the leadership in reaching a common position.
