Christodoulides and Erhurman Agree on New Meeting - President Requests Meeting with Guterres

President Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, reached an agreement for a new meeting in the near future, following today's meeting at Kasim Dian's residence. The negotiators of both sides will determine the date of the next meeting soon. President Christodoulides also announced that he has requested a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres within March. The meeting was characterized by an “open and honest” dialogue, focusing on reviewing the progress of Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs). The meeting took place without the participation of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, indicating the two leaders' effort to maintain a direct communication channel. President Christodoulides had earlier stated that he expected clear positions from Mr. Erhurman regarding the form of the desired solution, emphasizing that time had been lost during the previous leadership. The atmosphere had been strained by an exchange of statements regarding a visit to the Rizokarpasos school. Following the meeting, President Christodoulides will convene the National Council to inform the political forces about the outcome of the meeting and the next steps.
