EU Council: Cyprus's defence plan approved under SAFE

The EU Council approved funding to strengthen defence production in eight member states, including Cyprus and Greece, through the SAFE (European Defence Fund) mechanism. Cyprus will receive funding of €1,181,503,924, while Greece will receive €787,669,283. This approval paves the way for the issuance of loans and the disbursement of pre-financing for the acquisition of modern defence equipment. In addition, the Council approved an agreement with Canada for the participation of Canadian companies under SAFE, making Canada the first non-European country to participate in the program.
