The Cyprus Alien and Immigration Service (ΥΑ&Μ) conducted a nationwide operation to identify and arrest individuals residing illegally in the country. Over 30 people were arrested during the operation, and deportation procedures have begun. The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, stated that the Ministry and the Government fully understand citizens' concerns regarding safety and crime. Mr. Fytiris emphasized the need to combat organized crime, regardless of origin, and mentioned that Cyprus is facing both local and foreign criminal organizations. He highlighted that expedited deportation procedures are being applied to those who break the law and are involved in criminal activities, always within the legal framework. The success of the operation also depends on the cooperation of citizens, who are encouraged to provide information to the Police, even anonymously. This is considered a critical tool for prevention and early intervention. The House of Representatives is expected to support the passage of legislation that will strengthen the Police's capabilities in combating organized crime. The government's goal is to ensure the safety of citizens throughout Cyprus. This operation is part of a broader effort to address illegal immigration and crime, while respecting the rule of law and protecting fundamental freedoms.
