Police to Conduct Checks for Seatbelt Use and Child Seats

The Cyprus Police announced a nationwide campaign to check for seatbelt use and child/booster seat compliance, running from March 9th to March 15th, 2026. The campaign aims to reduce serious and fatal injuries in road traffic collisions by raising awareness among drivers and passengers. The campaign will be conducted in parallel at the European level, within the framework of cooperation with the European Road Policing Network ROADPOL. The use of seatbelts, both in the front and rear seats, as well as the correct use of child and booster seats, will be strictly checked. According to statistics from the three-year period 2022-2024, 50.9% of deceased drivers and passengers were not wearing seatbelts, highlighting the importance of their use for the safety of drivers and passengers. The Cyprus Police reminds that seatbelts remain the most effective safety feature in vehicles and calls on citizens to comply with road safety rules.
