Hospital Emergency Rooms Under Scrutiny: Audit Report Reveals Delays and Deficiencies

The Audit Office report on the Emergency Departments of the General Hospitals of Nicosia and Limassol highlights significant weaknesses. Omissions were found in the patient admission process, with resident doctors admitting patients instead of specialist doctors. Additionally, delays were observed in the response of specialist doctors to emergency cases, as well as a lack of availability of critical specialties. Faults in the CT scanner of Nicosia General Hospital, delays in the preparation of medical reports, and excessively long waiting times in the Emergency Departments were also reported, with one case lasting 11 hours and 28 minutes. A positive aspect was the presence of on-call specialist doctors.
