Spotlight on Cypriot Influencers: “They Don’t Know the Legislation” (VID)

The Consumer Protection Service is conducting checks on influencers regarding the advertisements they promote, as it is found that many are unaware of the relevant legislation. Service official Antonis Konstantinou stated that the service focuses on the advertising aspect and not on the financial side of influencers' activities. The checks have shown that influencers often do not indicate that their posts are advertisements, which violates the law. The service has carried out awareness campaigns for both influencers and consumers, sending warning letters and issuing administrative decisions in cases of violation. The Consumer Protection Service aims to inform and not to impose fines, and sees positive results from the awareness campaigns. A special campaign has been carried out for influencers who have an impact on people aged 18-25, who are considered a vulnerable group of consumers. The service emphasizes the importance of transparency in advertising and the need for influencers to comply with the law in order to protect consumers.
