US Braces for Winter Storm: Five Dead, Hundreds of Thousands Without Power

A severe winter storm is sweeping across the United States, causing widespread disruption and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power. The storm, named Fern, is impacting a vast area from New Mexico to Maine, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain. So far, five people have lost their lives due to the extreme weather conditions. Over 190 million Americans are under winter weather alerts. The storm is expected to move eastward, affecting cities such as Wichita, Cincinnati, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City. Authorities are warning of potential power outages, dangerous driving conditions, and flight cancellations. A significant forecast is the possibility of freezing rain in areas of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. The I-95 corridor is expected to experience heavy snowfall, with rates of up to 2.5 centimeters per hour. New England is also expected to be hit by snowfall. More than 10,000 flights have already been canceled, including all flights at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the majority at Philadelphia International Airport. Authorities are urging citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, as the storm is expected to continue until Monday afternoon.
