Paphos Dam Capacity at 23% Despite Rainfall

The capacity of dams in the Paphos province remains at low levels, around 23%, despite recent rainfall. The Water Development Department reports that no significant change in water reserves is expected, although inflows continue. The Pomos and Argaka dams overflowed due to heavy rainfall, which is causing satisfaction in local communities. The Pomos and Argaka dams are mainly used for irrigating crops in the area and are important infrastructure for agricultural activity. The Argaka dam operates in conjunction with other dams, creating a unified water management system. The Xeropotamos river, which flows into the Asprokremmos dam in the Paphos province, is flowing rapidly due to rainfall, contributing to the increase in water reserves. The Water Development Department expects the continuation of water inflows into the dams and will assess the situation after the end of the rainfall wave. The Paphos Provincial Self-Governing Authority is coordinating with the Water Development Department to implement water conservation programs and address losses. An agreement has already been concluded with a contractor to immediately address faults that cause water losses.
