Cyprus Finance Minister to Present Priorities of Cypriot Presidency in Brussels

Finance Minister Makis Keravnos will travel to Brussels on February 26, 2026, to chair the Council General Affairs Council on Cohesion Policy. The meeting is expected to approve conclusions on the European Commission's "Agenda for Cities," which highlights the importance of cities for economic development, innovation, and social cohesion, as well as the challenges they face such as housing and climate change. The Cypriot Presidency will also present a document on lessons learned from the mid-term evaluation of the 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy and how these can be utilized in the next programming period. The discussion will focus on supporting Cohesion Policy towards the EU's new priorities for competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy. Furthermore, the Minister will present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency to the Regional Policy (REGI) and Economic and Monetary Policy (ECON) committees of the European Parliament on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He will inform members about the Presidency’s objectives for Cohesion Policy, as well as the priorities of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). Mr. Keravnos will present the three key areas the ECOFIN Council will focus on: economic policy, tax issues, and the regulation of financial services, followed by an exchange of views with members of the European Parliament.
