Finance Minister to Brussels for Eurogroup and Ecofin

The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, will participate in Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday, February 16th and 17th. At the Eurogroup, discussions will focus on economic policy recommendations for the Eurozone and actions to strengthen the international role of the euro. There will also be a discussion on international macroeconomic imbalances. On Tuesday, the Minister will chair the Ecofin, where the economic consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine will be discussed, and proposals to strengthen the framework for supplementary pensions will be presented, including a pan-European individual retirement product. The Ecofin is also expected to approve the guidelines for the EU Budget for 2027, the Recommendation on economic policy for the Eurozone, the revised Recovery and Resilience Plan of Lithuania, as well as Austria’s request to activate the national escape clause to increase spending in the defense sector. Finally, Ministers will be briefed on the progress of implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and the SAFE lending mechanism to strengthen the EU's defense capabilities.
