Foreclosure Law Proposals to be Discussed in Parliament

The House Finance Committee will begin discussions on March 9th regarding proposed laws aimed at protecting borrowers and guarantors from foreclosures. AKEL MP Aristos Damianou emphasized the need to restore balance between citizens and financial institutions, highlighting the party's years-long effort for fairer regulations. Mr. Damianou accused the DISY and DIKO parties of continuously postponing the resolution of the problem, while referring to the tragic consequences of foreclosures for thousands of citizens. AKEL's main proposal concerns restoring the ability to seek justice to protect primary residences and business premises. The President of the Ecologists Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, Stavros Papadouris, confirmed the start of the discussion on March 9th.
