February 26th is the First Appearance of Koumas in Court for Conflict of Interest Case

Former President of the Cyprus Football Federation (CFA), Giorgos Koumas, will appear in court on February 26, 2026, following the filing of an indictment against him. The indictment includes a total of 25 charges for potential conflict of interest and money laundering from illegal activities. The charges cover the period 2015-2025 and concern collaborations with companies and organizations involved in sports, such as the CFA, the Telecommunications Authority, Cablenet, GO PLC, the Nicosia Race Club, and the Cyprus Basketball Federation. According to the indictment, Mr. Koumas allegedly maintained connections with these organizations in violation of the law on combating the manipulation of sporting events. In addition, two charges concern offenses of money laundering from illegal activities, with the amount of disputed funds amounting to approximately 6.5 million euros. The defendants are Giorgos Koumas, as well as two companies allegedly under his control. During the first appearance in court, a request for an adjournment is expected to be made to review the evidence, and a new date will be set for the hearing.
