6-Year Jail Sentence for Woman Who Smuggled Cocaine into Cyprus

A 24-year-old woman was sentenced to six years in prison by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court for drug trafficking. The woman had concealed 890 grams of cocaine in her body and was arrested at Larnaca Airport. The cocaine was discovered last October during checks carried out by the Police and Customs Department to identify drug importers. Following an evaluation of information, the 24-year-old was stopped in the arrivals area of the airport and packages containing 540 grams of cocaine were found in her possession. Further medical examinations and X-ray scans revealed an additional 35 packages containing 350 grams of cocaine hidden in her body. The woman was hospitalized and subsequently remained in custody for the investigation of the case. The YKAN (Larnaca Provincial Unit) investigated the case and proceeded with its registration for trial. The court found the 24-year-old guilty and sentenced her to six years in prison for the offense of importing drugs.
