Fixed Cameras: Graduated Fines Legislation Applies from March 1st – What Changes

The new legislation for graduated fines from fixed traffic cameras will take effect on March 1st. The change provides lower fines for parking on pedestrian crossings at traffic lights (€85 instead of €300), while the fine for parking beyond the crossing or driving during a red light remains at €300. The legislation had already been passed and is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers. Its purpose is to relieve pressure on the courts and to treat certain offenses more mildly, without relaxing the monitoring of road safety. The €25 fine for failing to comply with the obligation to stop before the stop line at a traffic light remains in force. This change is expected to significantly affect drivers and reduce the financial burden of fines for certain offenses. The implementation of the new legislation is expected to contribute to improved road safety and the publicity of the effectiveness of fixed traffic cameras.
