Gas Prices Surge in Cyprus, Consumer Association Calls for Subsidy Reinstatement

The price of 95-octane gasoline has increased to 11.7 cents per liter, with forecasts predicting further price increases. The Consumer Association is calling for the reinstatement of the state fuel subsidy, as was in effect in 2022, to protect consumers from the rising cost of living. Legal Officer of the Association, Virginia Christou, stated that current prices are higher than those in March 2022, when a subsidy was in place. Additionally, the Association expressed concerns about the impact of foot-and-mouth disease on the market, but there are currently no indications of price increases in dairy products or meat.
