Cyprus: MP Challenges DISY's Decision to Remove Him from Election Ballot

MP Nikos Sykas has filed a lawsuit in the Limassol Administrative Court, challenging the decision of the Democratic Rally (DISY) to remove him from the ballot for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Sykas, through his lawyer, is seeking a temporary injunction to suspend the review of the decision by the DISY Supreme Council. He argues that the removal process was illegal, as the Political Bureau acted in a substitute capacity and did not give him the opportunity to state his position. Furthermore, he emphasizes that the decision violates his right to be elected and the presumption of innocence. DISY, on its side, maintains that it followed the legal procedure and that the matter has been referred to the Supreme Council for a final decision. The President of the Court will issue his decision before the convening of the Supreme Council.
