Report on Abused Women of 1974 Delivered to Guterres

MEP Lucas Fourlas traveled to New York as a member of the Delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), within the framework of the 70th session of the United Nations on the Status of Women. He met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, to whom he delivered the European Parliament's Report on abused women of 1974 by the Turkish army in Cyprus. Mr. Fourlas called on Mr. Guterres to contribute to highlighting the historical truth and the international recognition of the crimes committed against Cypriot women, emphasizing the need for justice, recognition, and support. The Report includes shocking testimonies and documented evidence of the violence during the Turkish invasion. Mr. Fourlas stressed the importance of international recognition of crimes against women during times of conflict.
