Greek Cypriot Involved in Cattle Smuggling Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak

An alert has been issued in the occupied territories due to suspected cases of foot-and-mouth disease in animals, causing concern in the free areas as well. During checks in Famagusta, the authorities of the occupied territories discovered the illegal import of nine cattle from the free areas, with a Greek Cypriot being arrested in the act. The animals were confiscated and handed over to the state breeding farm. A total of three people were arrested, a Greek Cypriot, a Turkish Cypriot and an unknown person, and a sum of money was also confiscated. The suspects were loading the animals from one car to another, with the help of the third person. They have been placed in three-day custody, while the case is being investigated.
