Life expectancy in Cyprus was 83.55 years in 2024, according to the latest data from Eurostat, exceeding the European Union average of 81.5 years. In Cyprus, men have a life expectancy of 81.5 years and women 85.6 years, confirming the trend that women live longer than men. Cyprus ranks fourth in the European Union in terms of life expectancy, after Spain (84 years), Sweden (83.8 years) and Italy (83.7 years). Eurostat notes that life expectancy had decreased in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but has recovered in recent years and now exceeds 2019 levels. At the regional level, the Community of Madrid in Spain records the highest life expectancy with 85.7 years, followed by Italian and Swedish regions. Conversely, the lowest values are recorded in Bulgaria, France (Mayotte) and Hungary. In the EU, women live an average of 5.2 years longer than men, with the largest difference being recorded in Latvia (9.8 years) and the smallest in the Netherlands (2.8 years). These figures show that Cyprus has one of the highest life expectancies in Europe, indicating good health and quality of life conditions.
