Layoff Compensation Projected at €26 Million in 2026

The 2026 budget for the redundancy fund projects compensation payments of €25.7 million, a decrease of €1.5 million compared to the 2025 budget. Despite the reduction for 2026, an increase in compensation is forecast for 2027 (€26.6 million) and 2028 (€27.5 million). Alongside this, the budget includes an increase in the transfer of funds to the Employee Rights Protection Fund in case of employer insolvency, rising from €25.2 million in 2025 to €27.4 million in 2026, with further increases to €29.1 million and €30.7 million for 2027 and 2028 respectively. The fund's total revenue for 2026 is estimated at €180.8 million, up €5.1 million from 2025, while total expenditure is projected at €58.1 million, an increase of €2.8 million. The budget surplus for 2026 is estimated at €122.7 million. The fund's cash reserves currently stand at €1 billion and are expected to increase to €1.1 billion by the end of 2026, €1.3 billion in 2027, and €1.4 billion in 2028. Deposits are made into the General Government Account, with limited immediate availability for the fund.
