Trade Unions Support Bill for Cyta Modernization

Trade unions of Cyta expressed their full support for the bill of the Ministry of Finance for the modernization of the regulatory framework of the company. This support was expressed through a joint statement ahead of the bill's discussion in Parliament on March 2nd. The unions emphasized that Cyprus is entitled to a public organization like Cyta that evolves, competes fairly and produces measurable benefits for society. They highlight the need to adapt Cyta to modern trends of convergence in the telecommunications, energy and technology sectors. A significant part of the bill's support concerns Cyta's intention to offer energy from renewable sources to population groups who do not have access to such solutions, such as young couples, tenants, the elderly and small businesses. The unions assure that Cyta does not seek to replace other providers, but to fill the gap in the market. They also emphasize that Cyta remains a healthy, profitable and sustainable company, operating in a competitive environment and reinvesting its profits into infrastructure that strengthens the country's development. Failure to approve the bill could limit Cyta's ability to compete and offer new services, with negative consequences for society.
