Cyprus Offers Humanitarian Aid, UK Bases Not Used for Military Operations

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the British Bases in Cyprus have not been and will not be used for military operations in the region, following an update from the British Prime Minister. The Cypriot government is closely monitoring the developments and is in contact with neighboring countries, the EU, the US, and the UK, while the Cypriot diplomatic missions are available to Cypriot citizens in conflict zones. The 'Estia' plan has been activated to provide assistance for Cypriots wishing to return, but so far, no specific requests have been made, apart from requests for aircraft parking at Cypriot airports, which have been accommodated. The President Christodoulides emphasized Cyprus's humanitarian approach to the crisis and assured that the country will do everything possible within its capabilities. The National Security Council (NSC) is in continuous session, monitoring the situation, and there is constant communication with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Justice. Regarding a possible Cypriot initiative, as the presiding country of the Council of the EU, for coordination at European level, the President noted that the matter falls within the responsibility of the EU High Representative, with whom the Minister of Foreign Affairs is in constant contact. There will be an initial consultation at the level of Foreign Ministers, and then the next steps will be examined, as the President of the Commission and the President of the Council have already issued statements on the matter. In summary, Cyprus is on alert, closely monitoring developments, and is ready to offer humanitarian aid while simultaneously seeking coordination at European level to address the crisis.
