Yusuf Kisa, owner of the Yeni Bakis newspaper, reveals a shocking piece of information regarding the murder of approximately 80 Greek Cypriots in 1963. According to a testimony given by an eyewitness, the victims were “beheaded and thrown into a well.” The witness requested that the information be made public only after his death. Kisa states that the witness, born in 1942, revealed the incident to him in London, where he had settled after the massacre, fearing for his life. The witness described the murder in detail, even mentioning the name of the village and the location of the well. The Greek Cypriot representative in the CMP, Leonidas Pantelidis, stated that the number of Greek Cypriot missing persons from the period 1963-64 is 44-45, of which 20 have been identified. He expressed the Committee's intention to investigate the information and try to contact Kisa for more details. Pantelidis noted that burials in wells were not common practice during the 1963-64 period, but the Committee will consider every possible piece of information. This revelation is expected to cause strong reactions and open new investigations into the criminal acts committed during the intercommunal crisis.
