Critical Failures at Athallasas Hospital: 'Risk of Collapse and Deaths'

Athos Georgiou, head of the health sector of AKEL, reported to ASTRA serious deficiencies and infrastructure failures at Athallasas Hospital. According to Mr. Georgiou, the hospital's 4 clinics and administrative offices are at risk of collapse at any moment, endangering the lives of patients and staff. He pointed out that only 50 of the hospital's 150 beds are safe and called on the Minister of Health to take immediate action. Mr. Georgiou accused the government of poor infrastructure, shrinking services, underfunding, and a lack of staff and training. He also mentioned that the second phase of the hospital's upgrade has never begun. Mr. Georgiou stressed that the government's tactic of not addressing problems until tragedies occur is unacceptable. AKEL has already sent two letters without receiving a response.
