Deadlock in Tunnel for Police Working Hours

The parliamentary Legal Committee discussed the crisis caused by the Police Chief's decision to change working hours, but without reaching an immediate solution. MPs urged the Chief and the trade unions to meet to find a compromise. Police Chief Stelios Arnautis explained that aligning the Police schedule with the Public Service schedule had been a long-standing request of police officers and had already been approved by the Council of Ministers and the Parliament in 2019. However, the implementation was fragmented, creating injustices. Trade union representatives reiterated their disagreement, arguing that the decision had damaged the morale of police officers. During the session, tension arose between the Police Chief and a trade union representative due to characterizations of the decision, which were eventually withdrawn. The discussion did not result in commitments for dialogue.
