Shadows of Interests in the Health Committee Regarding Imaging Centers – Direct Accusations from the Radiological Society [audio]

The Secretary-General of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Radiological Society, Dr. Eleni Heracleous, expressed serious accusations regarding potential shadows of interests in the Health Committee of the Parliament, concerning the discussion of the bill for imaging centers. She argued that the positions and pressures being exerted aim to serve specific business interests, mainly large private centers. Dr. Heracleous criticizes the attempt to abolish or relax the mandatory presence of a radiologist during examinations, believing that it endangers patient safety. She notes that an imaging examination is a medical act that requires the immediate presence of a doctor for radiation protection and dealing with unforeseen situations. The specialist radiologist warned that legislating based on interests rather than medical responsibility will have negative consequences for patients. She emphasized that the physical presence of the doctor is essential for the proper conduct of examinations and the protection of public health.
