Sicily: Rare 1,000-Meter Deep Fish Washes Ashore in Milazzo – To Be Exhibited in Museum

A rare Lophotus lacepede fish, which usually lives at depths of 200-1,000 meters, was found on a beach in Milazzo, Sicily. The fish, which is rarely recorded in the Mediterranean, did not survive, but represents a significant opportunity for study. Biologist Carmelo Isgrò, director of the Milazzo Sea Museum (MuMa), rushed to the scene and will undertake the special processing of the fish, which will be exhibited in the museum as part of its permanent collection. The exhibition will contribute to highlighting the unknown aspects of the deep sea waters of the Mediterranean.
