Significant Progress in the Conservation of Saint Prokopios Church in Ammoshostos

The conservation work on the church of Saint Prokopios in Ammoshostos is at an advanced stage. The project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, focuses on the restoration of the stonework, including cleaning the stone and reconstructing damaged sections. Additionally, the project includes the restoration of the bell tower, repair of plastering, cleaning of the roof and eaves, as well as the coating of the courtyard walls with lime mortar. The works aim to preserve and protect this important cultural monument. The conservation of the stonework includes cleaning the stone from vegetation and pollutants, as well as reconstructing sections that have been damaged or collapsed. This ensures the stability and longevity of the church. The restoration of the bell tower and the maintenance of the roof are also crucial for protecting the church from the weather and preserving its architectural integrity. The use of lime mortar for coating the courtyard walls helps protect them from moisture and deterioration.
