SEK: Andreas Matsas Re-elected as General Secretary

Andreas Matsas was re-elected as the General Secretary of SEK for the next four years without opposition, during the 30th Pan-Cypriot Congress of the Confederation. Panikos Argyrides was also elected as Deputy General Secretary without competition, taking over from Michalis Michael. Savvas Koulas was re-elected as General Treasurer, also without opposition. Yannis Tsouris was elected as the new General Organizer, and Charalambos Augusti as the Secretary of International and Public Relations. Mr. Matsas addressed the delegates, assuring them that SEK will continue to advocate for workers' rights consistently and methodically, intervening in policies aimed at improving their benefits. SEK is committed to evidence-based and responsible interventions. The Congress approved the new policy document of SEK, which will guide the Confederation's interventions and demands over the next four years. This document prioritizes the resolution of the Cyprus issue, based on UN resolutions and the European acquis, with respect for human and labor rights. A significant part of the policy document focuses on strengthening collective bargaining and expanding collective agreements as a tool for protecting labor and combating inequalities. In addition, it proposes a comprehensive reform of the pension system, strengthening the minimum pension, protecting low-income pensioners, and a balanced policy for the employment of foreign workers.
