Larnaca Taxi Drivers to Stage Four-Hour Strike

Taxi drivers in Larnaca have announced a four-hour work stoppage on Tuesday, January 13th, in protest against the unregulated operation of ride-hailing apps, particularly at Larnaca Airport. The strike will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and the Pan-Cypriot Federation of Urban Taxi Drivers (POAT) warns of escalating measures, including a 24-hour strike on January 20th and an indefinite strike on January 28th, if no immediate and substantial solutions are found. The taxi drivers claim that despite repeated meetings with the relevant authorities, they have not seen any significant improvement in the situation. They believe the uncontrolled operation of ride-hailing apps threatens their professional survival. Their main demands are the immediate cessation of ride-hailing app activity at Larnaca Airport, except for those licensed in the Larnaca district, and the strict adherence to taxi base regulations by all apps, without exceptions. They insist on the need to enforce the law and restore legality to the industry. POAT emphasizes that the responsibility for the consequences of escalating measures will lie solely with those authorities who were aware of the situation and chose not to act. They express their determination to fight for the protection of their interests and professional dignity.
