Iran's New Supreme Leader Reportedly in Coma

A report in the British newspaper The Sun claims that Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is in a coma. According to the newspaper, sources in Iran report that Mr. Khamenei has sustained serious injuries, including the loss of a leg and damage to his stomach or liver. The Sun reports that Mr. Khamenei's condition is “very serious” and he is hospitalized in intensive care at a Tehran hospital, under tight security. However, the regime has only announced that Mr. Khamenei has been injured in the legs, without providing details. The newspaper notes that access to information is limited due to the internet blackout in Iran, but confirmed the injury from an exiled dissident. It also reports that Mr. Khamenei may not be aware of developments in the war or even his election as Supreme Leader. Meanwhile, Iranian state television refers to Mr. Khamenei as a “Ramadan Janbaz” – a wounded war veteran – attempting to present a positive image of his condition.
