Yellow Alert in Effect as Storm Hits Cyprus

A low-pressure system is affecting Cyprus today, causing local rains, isolated thunderstorms, and strong winds. A yellow alert is in effect until 6:00 PM for strong thunderstorms with rainfall intensity between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour. The thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by hail. Tonight, locally increased clouds are expected to bring isolated rains or thunderstorms, mainly in coastal and mountainous areas. Tomorrow, the weather will be intermittently cloudy with local rains and thunderstorms, which will be more intense from noon onwards, especially on the west and south coasts. Snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will mainly blow from the northwest to northeast, weak to moderate, with temporary strengthening on the windward side. The sea will be slightly rough to rough. The temperature will drop to 9 degrees Celsius inland, around 10 degrees on the south and east coasts, around 13 degrees on the west and north coasts, and 3 degrees in the higher mountains. For Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, intermittent local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with the possibility of hail in the higher mountains.
