Snowfall Prompts Road Clearing and Trail Closures in Troodos Mountains

Due to heavy snowfall, the Cyprus Forestry Department has begun snow removal operations in mountainous areas, particularly in the Troodos region and around the Holy Monasteries of Kykkos and Psokas. Fire trucks converted into snowplows and agricultural tractors equipped for this purpose are being used. The Forestry Department urges the public to be careful when traveling and to avoid actions that could damage the environment. In addition, the Forestry Department has proactively closed nature trails in the Troodos region and other mountainous areas due to risks from erosion, landslides, and frost. A total of 15 trails have been closed, as their use under these conditions is considered dangerous. The Forestry Department reminds the public that dumping waste in a state forest is an offense punishable by imprisonment or a fine, and driving off-road and causing damage to vegetation also carry penalties. The announcement emphasizes the need for caution and adherence to police instructions by visitors to the mountainous areas.
