Trade Union Denounces 'Administrative Chaos' at Youth Organisation

The trade union SEDIKEK PEO denounces an 'administrative chaos' that has been prevailing at the Youth Organisation of Cyprus (ONEC) for months, which affects employees and labor relations. It calls for the immediate filling of vacant positions on the Board of Directors, the appointment of an Executive Director, the resolution of pending labor issues, compliance with the Collective Agreement, the approval of the budget and the investigation of possible irregularities. According to the complaint, ONEC has remained headless for 7 months without a Board of Directors and for 5 years without an Executive Director, with poor relations between the members of the Board and the staff, confusion of responsibilities and violation of the rules. Members of the Board resigned before a meeting to examine issues of proper functioning, while the President of ONEC has requested an investigation from the Minister of Education and the Auditor General. SEDIKEK PEO also points out non-compliance with the contractual obligations of the Organisation, problems with the Medical Fund and delays in the approval of the budget, putting at risk the operation of programs and the wages of employees. SEDIKEK PEO calls on the Government and state institutions to intervene immediately to ensure the smooth operation of ONEC and protect the rights of workers.
