Larnaca Businessmen on Trial for Interfering with Justice

Two businessmen from Larnaca, aged 47 and 43, have been put on trial following their arrest for interfering with a judicial process, as part of an investigation into a violent shooting in the area. The charges include interference with justice, illegal possession of property, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The two men were released on restrictive terms, including a bail of €80,000, a travel ban, and the obligation to report to a police station twice a week. The case concerns a meeting that the businessmen allegedly had with the owner of a shop near the scene of the shooting, where money was allegedly requested for “protection”. According to testimonies, the businessmen deny any involvement in the shooting and allegedly offered to cooperate with the shop owner in a new business venture. However, the shop owner testified that he was pressured to provide specific information to the police in order to mislead the investigation. Meanwhile, six people, five foreigners and one Cypriot, are in custody for the shooting, while three more foreigners are wanted. The case is ongoing and the Larnaca TAE continues to take testimonies and collect evidence.
