Danish and Greenlandic Prime Ministers Seek European Support Amidst US Interest in Greenland

The Prime Ministers of Denmark and Greenland are jointly visiting Germany and France, primarily to strengthen European support in light of recent US claims regarding the purchase of Greenland. As part of the visit, they will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss foreign policy issues and the need for a stronger Europe. France has already assured its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Denmark and Greenland, while ways to provide economic and social assistance to Greenland will be explored. The visit follows a period of increased tension after initial expressions of interest from Donald Trump in buying the island, which however appears to have eased after talks in Davos.
