Over the past month, from December 10th, Cyprus has carried out 164 deportations of foreign nationals from detention centers and the Central Prisons, with 450 voluntary departures and 29 voluntary returns. The total number of people who have left Cyprus amounts to 643. Government sources state that operations to locate illegal immigrants and manage the issue of decongesting prisons are progressing at a rapid pace. At the same time, consultations are underway to implement mechanisms that will strengthen voluntary returns, including the possible release of approximately 100 foreign prisoners convicted of non-serious offenses.
