The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has declared a “Red Code” alert for the Peloponnese, Western Greece, the Ionian Islands, and Epirus due to the impending severe weather. The decision was made following the issuance of an Urgent Weather Bulletin (EEDEK) by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), warning of risks from flooding and coastal flooding due to stormy winds. Municipalities and regions are urged to immediately convene Local and Regional Operational Coordination Bodies for Civil Protection. Civil Protection is issuing recommendations to citizens to be particularly careful and take self-protection measures, such as securing objects, cleaning gutters and downspouts, avoiding crossing streams and torrents, and taking shelter during storms and hail.
