Russian Strike on Port Infrastructure in Odesa, Ceasefire for Repairs in Zaporizhzhia

Russia struck port infrastructure overnight in the Odesa region of southern Ukraine, causing fires and damage to equipment, warehouses, and food containers, according to Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba. Despite the attack, the Ukrainian shipping corridor remains operational, having handled over 176 million tons of cargo, including over 150 million tons of grain. Meanwhile, a local ceasefire came into effect near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to allow for repairs to an external power line. The ceasefire was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which reported that demining operations are underway to allow safe access to the plant for repair crews. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, has been under Russian control since the start of the war in 2022 and does not produce electricity, relying on external power supply to cool its nuclear material. Russia and Ukraine frequently accuse each other of jeopardizing the safety of the plant. Meanwhile, in Russia, the governor of the Belgorod region announced that Ukrainian missiles struck the city, causing significant damage to energy facilities and disruptions to electricity, water, and heating supplies.
