Russia: Ukrainian Drones Targeted Gazprom Gas Stations

Russian energy giant Gazprom stated that two of its gas pumping stations, the Ruskaya and Beregovaya stations, were targeted by air strikes overnight but the attacks failed. The Russian Ministry of Defense had earlier announced that Ukrainian drones attempted to attack the Ruskaya station. These stations are part of the network that delivers gas to Europe via the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines. The Kremlin condemned the attack, calling it reckless and emphasizing that its goal was to disrupt gas supplies to European customers. At the same time, a Ukrainian security service (SBU) claimed responsibility for an attack on infrastructure at the Tikhoretsk oil pumping station in the Krasnodar region, stating that it recorded a hit on the target and a large fire followed. The Tikhoretsk station is a major oil transshipment point in southern Russia. These attacks come at a time of increased tension in the region, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.
