Raouna: Work Continues on €90 Billion Funding Package for Ukraine

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, stated that work on the €90 billion funding package for Ukraine continues, despite existing difficulties, mainly due to Hungary's veto. The statement was made during the EU General Affairs Council in Brussels, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ms. Raouna emphasized Cyprus's steadfast support for Ukraine, describing it as a political priority, given its own experience with invasion and occupation. The Cypriot Presidency has promoted specific initiatives, such as the approval of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Regarding the funding package, the Deputy Minister stated that the Presidency is working closely with member states and the European Commission to overcome challenges and reach consensus. The discussion on utilizing frozen Russian assets as a source of funding is also on the table. Ms. Raouna reiterated that Cyprus, as a member state that has experienced invasion and occupation, fully understands the situation in Ukraine and considers it its duty to support the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
