Raouna in Strasbourg: Momentum Exists for the Future of the Single Market

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, stated that there is momentum for the future of the single market, emphasizing that European competitiveness depends on a fully functioning single market. She spoke before the European Parliament in Strasbourg, assuring that the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union will handle priority legislative proposals with urgent attention. Ms. Raouna referred to the proposal for the European Business Portfolio and the recently published law on the Industrial Accelerator, emphasizing that this year's annual report on the single market and competitiveness has raised the alarm. For this reason, competitiveness, energy, security, and geopolitical developments will be high on the agenda of the next European Council. The European Council is expected to present a roadmap and action plan for a unified European market, with an emphasis on reducing administrative burdens. Ms. Raouna stressed that reducing bureaucracy is essential to strengthen the competitiveness of European businesses and save resources. In addition, Ms. Raouna underlined the need to create a Union of Investment and Savings, as well as to achieve an energy and digital Union, as essential prerequisites for a truly unified market. The Cypriot Presidency will seek to accelerate negotiations to achieve tangible results.
