Cyprus Continues Work on €90 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, stated that work on the €90 billion aid package for Ukraine is ongoing, despite existing challenges, primarily due to Hungary's veto. Ms. Raouna emphasized Cyprus's steadfast support for Ukraine, which is a political priority, given its own experience with invasion and occupation. The Cypriot Presidency has already significantly advanced the 20th package of sanctions against Russia and is working to reach consensus among member states regarding the aid package. The Deputy Minister mentioned that ways are being explored to implement the decision of EU leaders, including the potential use of frozen Russian assets, but the current priority is to achieve broader consensus. Today marks the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and will be honored at the EU General Affairs Council.
