President to Meet with Unions on Minimum Wage, Collective Bargaining, Foreign Workers

President Nikos Christodoulides will meet with trade unions SEK, PEO, and DEOK next Wednesday, February 25th, at 9:30 am. The meeting was scheduled following a request from the unions and will address four key issues: improving the minimum wage, extending collective bargaining agreements, the strategy for employing workers from third countries, and the implementation of the Ergani 2 software. SEK General Secretary Andreas Matsas stated that the unions will also raise the issue of pension reform and the linking of public contracts to the implementation of collective bargaining agreements. They will also discuss complaints about the irregular granting of work permits to workers from third countries. The unions are seeking a revised strategy for employing workers from third countries and better regulation of the labor market.
