President Requests Meeting with UN Secretary-General

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, has formally requested a meeting with the UN Secretary-General within March, following a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhan Arıklı, in the buffer zone. During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in an "open and honest discussion" on substantive issues and agreed to meet again soon, leaving the scheduling to their negotiators. President Christodoulides referred to the December 11th announcement and the review of progress on Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs), aiming to provide guidance to the negotiators. Furthermore, the President announced that he will convene a meeting of the National Council in the coming days for further discussion.
